Friends:
Our website ( http://homepage.mac.com/ojoachim) has become frozen. Efforts
on the part of Apple to resolve the problem have been fruitless.
Regretfully, current material on the site ends with today's presentation.
I'm now working with all diligence to publish a new site with my local ISP.

A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

"Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed." - John 20:29

Our scientific age bases its beliefs and values on empirical
evidence, that which is acquired through the five senses and the
inferences finite minds make from limited and imperfect observations.
Mistakenly, humanity assumes it can explain every truth of creation,
including our existence; hence, we think we should direct for
ourselves the manner in which we are to live, Contemptuously, we
dismiss God's "input" and take on the task of making and remaking
rules so we can indulge every new want, despite the expense to
others.

In part, Thomas exhibits this mentality. He had not seen and
therefore refused to believe in his fellow apostles' encounter with
the resurrected Christ. Moreover, his fallen mind and heart had
remained untouched by all the evidence of Christ's divinity witnessed
during his three year association with Him.

Today, as in ages past, vast numbers remain spiritually blind by
choice. They endlessly chip at and try to reshape the "religion
wheel," fragmenting the truth because stubborn, selfish pride
prevents their delving deeply into and accepting God's Word as
revealed to us through the one true and Apostolic Church founded by
Jesus, the only begotten Son of God. Yes, with time, the knowledge of
our Faith expands, theology provides additional insights; but the
truths that govern human life remain forever unchanged as does God.

True conversion proceeds through a willing suspension of disbelief,
the seeking and receiving of Christ's Holy Spirit and our living in
obedience to Him Who applies Jesus' cross to our lives, re-creating
us in Christ's image.

     Gracious Redeemer,
          pour Your Spirit upon us.
Heal us of our unbelief and help us participate fully
in the new life You won for us at so great a price. Amen.
