A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

The new life in Christian community brought release from the tyranny
of possessions. It was clearly the work of the Spirit. The early
followers of Jesus freely shared and freely received from one
another. Today, we tend to look with suspicion on people who
spontaneously give us something. We are often embarrassed to accept
such gifts, afraid they will later regret their actions.

Yet, if we look on all that we own as really belonging to God, it is
easier to part with money and goods to those in need and to the
Church. Rarely do we regret our actions, and rarer still do we find
ourselves impoverished. Giving to others brings a lightness of heart
and abundant graces to our souls. The less we clutch tightly our
possessions, the more of the Spirit enters our souls. And that is
true joy!
