A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
"Whoever believes in the Son has life eternal.
Whoever disobeys the Son will not see life." (John 3:36)
Peter and the apostles proclaimed their obedience to God, knowing
fully the consequences thereof. Their eyes were fixed completely on
the promise of eternal life and their Messiah Jesus. We, the people
of God, regularly proclaim that Jesus is our Lord with our voices,
but how is that carried out in our daily lives. Can those around us
know for certain that we are Christians? How about our fellow workers
on the job, the people in the shopping center or those we meet
wherever we go?
The Psalmist tells us that the Lord hears the cry of the poor. Who
are the poor? Not only are they those without enough resources to
sustain their families but they are the homebound, the hospitalized,
those confined to nursing homes, crying out to us - we who are the
hands of Christ. Will they know we are Christians by the love we show
them?
In order for us to live our lives with God as our center, we must be
able to give life to those who surround us. There are opportunities
every place we go to be Christlike and to affirm each other by our
words and actions!
Holy Spirit, inflame in us the fire of your love once again. Let your
fruit be active in us - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control as we reach out
to one another. Amen.
