A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

Three years seems like such a short time to have one's whole life
turned around; but that is exactly what happened to Philip and James.
When they received the call to come and follow, they responded
affirmatively. Living with Jesus, learning how to pray and depend on
the Father, watching as Jesus healed and made whole, changed these
men forever. Their faith grew stronger, allowing them to trust more
deeply in the power of God, living in the divine presence of Jesus.

Jesus told Thomas that "I am the way, the truth and the life."
(Jn.14:6) Can each of us honestly answer ourselves that Jesus' way of
life is ours as well? Can we say we come to serve, not to be served?
Can we say we love our enemies as Jesus did? Can we say in truth that
our Lord is the very center of our lives and all that we do is a
reflection of what Jesus would do? Do we realize the life we have,
and will have for eternity, is because of the sacrifice of our
Savior?

Our lives should be one of openness, ready at the beckoning of the
Spirit to follow His lead! We have a most generous God who lives in
us, is around us wherever we go and who tells us "Anything you ask me
in my name I will do." (Jn.14:14) What more do we need to hear from
our loving God?

     O God,
as you called Philip and James to follow you,
give us the grace to come listen and follow you,
          wherever you go! Amen!
