A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
"I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father
except through me." (John 14:6)
These are bold words from Jesus in today's Gospel. On the one hand,
they comfort and console as we recognise that through the example of
Jesus and through a closer union with Him, we can come to know our
Father in Heaven. On the other hand, these words are also a test of
our Faith. Jesus in no uncertain terms tells us that He is THE only
way to get to the Father, He is THE truth and THE life. It's worth
asking ourselves how deeply we believe Jesus - is there a way to the
Father and to eternal truth without meeting Jesus?
When we consider the simple day-to-day living out of our Faith, such
as a kind word spoken to someone in need, a small act of charity, a
consoling word for a grieving neighbour, we follow the example of
Jesus and so can believe that we are indeed on the right path. Every
time we mirror the example of Jesus, we are closer to the kingdom of
Heaven and to our Father. Only in times when we sin, when we veer off
the right path, do we follow a path of destruction and misery, far
from the love of the Holy Trinity.
So, let us remember today, that it is only through and with Jesus, we
will get to our Father's kingdom. With that in mind, let us
consecrate ourselves today to our Blessed Mother in Heaven so that
she may bring us to a closer union with her Son and therefore bring
us closer to eternal salvation. Amen.
