A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

Today the Church celebrates the feast of the Apostle St. James. We
are told he is the brother of St. John, and son of Zebedee and that
he witnessed many of Christ's miracles.

Sometimes it's interesting to think about seeing miraculous events -
things that astound and amaze. It is seldom however that we consider
the concomitant responsibility that such occurrences demands. We
begin to recognize the scope of that responsibility when we examine
the lives of the Apostles. To those who saw great things, great
things were expected.

It is no less than this, that the life of Jesus who performed such
miracles, should be revealed in them. Jesus said it so well when he
said that, like Him, they who believed must be willing to give their
own lives as ransom for the many.

Through the intercession of St. James may we recognize the graces we
have received; and like James, let us give ourselves in the service
of Christ for the salvation of the world.
