A Reflection from Holy Scripture . . .

Sometimes in the mundaneness of daily life, we forget that God's
power and grace is with us in abundance. As people of faith, very
often we look for dramatic or miraculous events to validate our faith
in God. We remove God from our everyday humanity and elevate Him to
outside our ordinary daily experiences.

This was the difficulty of the people in Jesus' home town. They knew
Jesus as the son of a carpenter, as the nephew of friends and
couldn't reconcile this perception of Him with the prophetic words of
wisdom He spoke. It would have been easier for the community to
accept the words of a distant stranger of which they had no previous
experience than to accept this man who they had seen grow up in their
midst.

I think there's a lesson for all of us here on how we need to
reconcile the divine with our everyday humanity. I recently read a
nice quote (I cannot remember exactly where), but it went like this:
'We are not human beings having a spiritual experience, but spiritual
beings having a human experience'. Put in this context, even the
littlest tasks that we undertake during the day have significance if
we are guided by the Holy Spirit. If we let the Holy Spirit infuse
our daily ordinary lives, we grow in holiness and stay firm on the
path of eternal life.
