A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

Sometimes it takes a great tragedy to remind people who they are and
from whence they came. We might live in expensive houses, use all the
modern electronic communications and we might wear the most modern
clothes so we can feel part of the culture. But are we neglecting our
body and souls, our falling churches, our poor, our hungry and our
homeless ones? Is it time to stop and take a look at our individual
lives, our selfish habits? Our Judao-Christian roots are the
foundation of faith that America was founded on. Isn't it time to
rebuild the temple, to thwart the tide of modernism?

Like Herod, we might be mystified at our crumbling world that
surrounds us. If you know someone who has ignored our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ, reach out to them and invite them back to the Church,
away from the newspapers, the television, the web, the games that
demonstrate evil.

If you have a family, the simple acts of bringing in the mail,
cooking a meal, carrying out the garbage, engaging in dinner
conversation can take on significance when they are seen as the daily
"glue" that binds the relationships and revitalizes family links.

The twentieth century theologian Karl rahner said that human beings
seek nearness to one another. When they're in one another's presence
and seek to love one another in these circumstances, they seek to
exist not only in a physiological contact of flesh on flesh, but to
render such contact, when it is to be meaningful, the expression of a
complete, personal, fully mutual and reciprocal exchange of love
between them.
