The Catholic Calendar for Friday, Octber 26, 2001 The Twenty-ninth Week in Ordinary Time Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word: Romans 4:1-8 Psalm 32:1-2,5,11 Luke 12:1-7 Full text: http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/index.htm A Reflection from Holy Scripture . . . In today's first reading, we recognise our human inclination to sin despite our resolute efforts to follow the law of God. St. Paul in today's first reading explains that our inner desire is to do what is right, but that the willpower to do it is lacking. As individuals, we have an inflated view of our own power and control. Even in our spiritual journey we believe we are the ones who decide how we might 'succeed', treating our spiritual journey like just another set of goals or objectives in our lives. However, we must realise that our spiritual journey is not so much one of controlling our actions, but of growing in the presence of God so that He can act in and through us. We know the Lord rewards faithfulness and it is important for each of us to decide for God and to commit time to God everyday. This is the active part that we can play in our spiritual journey. Through prayer, through learning to love God, only then do we become open to God's grace and 'power' which is the only instrument which gives us the strength and resolve to resist temptation and turn away from sin. Today, Lord Jesus, we ask you in faith to send forth your bountiful mercy to heal your people and free us from sin. We ask this of You, O Lord, today and everyday of our lives. Amen. - Cliodhna Doyle ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (Cliodna has been writing for us since December 1997. She lives in Dublin, Ireland where she has her own business consulting firm.
