A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

Today's First Reading reminds us of something so important. Namely,
that we have been known from all eternity by our Creator who
predestined us to share the image of His Son and predestined us for
good. This predestination doesn't consign us to a robotic existence
as if no choice or action is without consequence, but puts our
ability to choose on the same plane as the choice of Christ to be
obedient (even unto death) to the will of His Father.

Christ's choice to accept suffering and death didn't seem too smart
at first; but time showed where wisdom was. Not only did the tragic
and disgraceful crucifixion of Christ win =Him= the crown of glory,
it also saved all the rest of us as well. Paul's Letter to the Romans
also demonstrates that with God's grace, and our cooperation with
grace, even our poor choices and consequent life situations can be
factored into our spiritual transformation, resurrection and glory.

Let us then not lose hope, daring not to believe that all things work
together for good for those who believe. Instead, let use embrace the
words of Holy Scripture - or better yet, let the words of Scripture
embrace us. Let them comfort, heal, strengthen and make us more
determined than ever to reflect Christ - in whose image we have been
wondrously made.

     Let my heart rejoice in your salvation;
let me sing to the Lord: "He has been good to me." Ps 13:6
