A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

Jesus is not trying to frighten us, but He is attempting to prepare
us for the end of days. The time and the manner is not our concern --
what is our concern is that we work out our salvation, day by day, in
patience, love, and obedience to His commands. The judgment to come
is real -- good will be rewarded and evil will be punished. It is all
a matter of divine justice. And Jesus makes very clear that suffering
for Truth is very much a part of the Christian way. To witness is to
risk ridicule, persecution, and even death. For most of us, it's a
question of small insults, veiled contempt, or polite indifference.
All this can wear down enthusiasm for the Good News. All the root
sins of greed, avarice, power-seeking, pride, and lust can be
countered by the spirit of poverty, generosity, humility and purity.
We are connected! Our patient endurance and faithful witness to love
is crucial to the battle!
