Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Acts 18:23-28
Psalm 47:2-3,8-10
John 16:23b-28

A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

"And in that day you shall ask me nothing." (John 16:23)

What a powerful statement from Christ during His last discourse!
Christ is referring to the joy and fulfillment we will experience
when we see Him again. The statement also implies that the love bond
between Christ and us is so strong that there will be no need for
words; no questions, no justifications, no idle talk, just love.
People 'in love' can relate to that level of communication.

Once again, Christ speaks of His Father. We can sense His joyful
anticipation of reunion with His Father, despite the fact that He
still was facing His execution on the cross. Christ attempts to teach
us that we too can have joyful anticipation of being with the Father.
He reassures us of our Father's love. He adds that the time will come
when we will not speak to the Father through Him (Christ), but rather
can be as one with Him. ("And I say not to you that I will ask the
Father for you")
(John 16:26)

These few lines of Christ's last discourse are a powerful promise and
surely are enough to motivate the believer for a lifetime.
