A Reflection on today's Holy Scripture . . .
What does "follow me" mean to you? Are Jesus' words (John 21:19) an
invitation, a request, or a command? Yes, a command is how we should
read this but it is our choice to comply. Whenever we think about our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we ponder what true love really is, laying
down one's life for one's friend. His love for Peter was evident long
before He had the conversation in which He questioned him about his love
of Him. Peter was surprised when Jesus repeated his question three
times.
Sometimes we are surprised when we are led down a path to help spread
the good news of Jesus Christ. We are called in many ways to preach the
Gospel, by helping our neighbors; by loving them; and by treating all we
meet, as we would like to be treated whether at home, in church or at
work. Jesus simply wants us to care about everyone we come in contact
with as we go about our daily life just as He gave us His perfect
example. Today as we approach Pentecost and the close of the Easter
Season, let us be sincere in following Jesus, let us really answer the
call to follow Him and reply, "Yes Lord, thou knowest that I love thee!" (John 21:16).
Come Holy Spirit fall afresh on us.
Lead us down the right path to your glory!
