The Catholic Calendar for Friday, June 14, 2002 Tenth Week in Ordinary Time Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word: 1 Kings 19:9,11-16 Psalm 27:7-9,13-14 Matthew 5:27-32 A Reflection on today's Holy Scripture . . . Jesus speaks to us today about the sacredness of marriage. In today's world, whether we are looking at the television set, the newspapers or magazines, we are bombarded with anything and everything that is contrary to what Christ teaches us about how to live as married or unmarried people. The media blasts to us the lack of modesty, the lack of faithfulness and fidelity as a way to live. Gone are the days when the body, the temple of the Holy Spirit, was a holy gift from God, to be taken care of and reverenced for Who dwelled therein. The man of God, Elijah, heard the voice of God in a tiny whispering sound. That same tiny voice is speaking to us today. It is the voice of the Spirit who is trying his best to lead us on the pathway that leads to our God. It is the path of holiness that allows us through the very strength of God, to show forth that we are children of the light, the light that dispels the darkness of sin. If something or someone is the cause of our turning away from God, we must put it behind us and pray for the grace to resist whatever the temptation is. May God be with us in this quest! Speak to us O Holy Spirit, teach us more and more about the ways of our God.
