    Psalm 137:1-6
    Matthew 8:1-4

A Reflection on today's Holy Scripture . . .

This little gospel story is so touching after having just returned from
a pilgrimage to Fatima and Lourdes. Our hearts and minds were bursting
with the needs of our family and friends. We carried forth the faith
passed onto us from our loving parents, a faith that allowed us to
believe that anything is possible with our God!

Seeing with our own eyes the faith of those on stretchers and in
wheelchairs moved us to tears. We were reminded of the faith of the man
in the gospel story. He believed in the power of God when he said to the
Lord from his heart that he wanted to be healed if Jesus willed it. What
else could Jesus do but to heal him? Here was a man shunned by society
because of his affliction, now having a chance at a new life!
Oh that
our faith could be as this leper. If we could only fully realize that
every time we petition our God in prayer, our prayers are answered
immediately -- according to the plan of God. He only does the very best
for his children.

Let us ask our Blessed Mother who came to Fatima and Lourdes, Guadalupe
and Knock, to intercede for us so as to have the faith of the leper in
today,s gospel!

              O Mary conceived without sin,
                   pray for us sinners.
                        Amen!
