I'll certainly keep an eye on him for that. I plan on having him thoroughly
checked out by a vet as soon as we get somewhat back on track financially
from this move. Zeus is also not the sharpest knife in the drawer to put it
mildly...so it is also possible he was just lost and disoriented. I'd just
never heard of a dog no matter what the intelligence staying put for 24 hours
before, and his behavior upon seeing me was quite unusual. As Joyce mentioned
perhaps just disoriented though? I really don't know.
We hiked back to the pace I found him today (without the dogs) to see if
there was anything that might clue us in. There was a fetid pool of water
nearby which I'd missed seeing before, and even more unusual was that one of
the cow leg bones had been sawed just below the joint...yet the entire
skeleton remained intact with no other damage. The ground surrounding the
skeleton was dead...there was no grass nor weeds in that area...but other
than that nothing else appeared out of the ordinary.
As far as the history of this place, it's a mobile home which the former
occupant brought here himself. He shot himself twice in the chest somewhere
nearby here, but he did survive. That's all the history I know of the home.
The land itself has been owned by a very kind yet eccentric wealthy couple
for decades. We don't have a library the town only has 858 people so it
really is tiny.
