Used to be an ICU/CCU nurse. Found it in books that I studied. Husband
diagnosed w/cardiomyopathy shortly before terminal ca discovered. Book
said that in humans life expectancy was approx. 2 years after diagnosis
of cardiomyopathy. However, I assisted in a code of a gentleman many
years ago with cardiomyopathy who had had it since relatively young
(late 30's early 40s). He was a Navy vet and the cardiologists said his
problem had been caused by a virus. He was in his late 50s or 60s when
he coded while walking in hospital. We became friends and a couple of
years later he got a transplant and is still kicking around.

As am no longer nursing (nor have done for several years) I have tossed
the books. The one I had when husband diagnosed was written in the
90's.
