I don't imagine treating now would hurt. But why not get a throat
culture, then you will know for sure. If strep has lodged in heart,
damage has absolutely been done.
One of the things I looked up today states that if there is an
underlying cause to the cardio---, it should be addressed and treated.
Of course, if virus, nothing to treat by now. I am sure you read in
Merck that prognosis is poor. I knew about 2 years following
diagnosis. That is why I rambled about my friend who survived for lots
longer than 2 years. As I recall, his wife was always reading about and
finding alternative forms of medicine, mostly vitamins.

For sure, if any infection, parasite, fungus has lodged in the heart,
damage has been done, but surely stopping it now could halt the damage.
The cardio may be early stages.

Has she had cardiac cath, echogram, chest x-ray, or anything like that.
Do they do that for dogs.

I do not know if strep has become antibiotic resistant. I only remember
that my kid had strep throat over and over for years every winter. I
believe we used Penicillin. We are talking 20 years ago. Peds was
never my bag.

Just be careful about fluid build up. One of the problems is the pump
does not operate efficiently any more. That is the reason for the
Digoxin which is commonly given. It slows down the heartbeat to
increase filling time and force of beat. I forget the name, but the
theory is the greater the fill, the more forceful the beat. Up to a
point. Anyway because the pump is not doing such a good job, the fluid
is not returned efficiently from the lungs, hence CHF.
