My danes eat dear all the time.  Dear season here means there will be stuff left
in the field.  I understand that if the meat is frozen for 60 days before
feeding it takes care of any problems, but I hadn't heard anything about any
illness it may have been causing.  This being big dear area I think we would
have heard if there were any problems.  I have several friends that donate their
dear leftovers to my danes.  They love the liver.  I slice it and cook like beef
liver and use for bait during show season.
