Absolutely. I know that I alone have contributed several thoughts on arbitrary syntax-tree diffs. Then there is the recent talk of change-type "plugins".
I guess part of the problem is that existing "smart" change-types like "replace" in Darcs just give us so much hope for a beautiful, smart syntax-sensitive patch system...
