The things expensive in darcsweb are the ones expensive in darcs.
If you're worried about straining your server, you can enable caching
(remember to set up some kind of cron to clean the cache every once in a
while) and logging. Then you can monitor the logs to see if there is
any operation taking too much time.
That said, I don't think any operation is nearly as expensive as
annotate, the rest should be fine.
I'd recommend you to enable the cache anyway, because it's quite easy to
set up, and avoiding invocating darcs on every single page is a huge
performance benefit (really noticeable, even on a local network, for
most operations).
