Hah! I like this doubling-in-size approach (in fact, I liked it so much,
I almost implemented it for .depend). But if you want, I can wait until
you find a cleaner solution (I won't wait too long though, and will
probably push this in before the night is over)

Could you please check that the modified test still fails on darcs
2.1.0?
