In that price range, Fox is out of the question. So Rockshox or Manitou. And in that price range, you're certainly looking at a Rockshox. Cheap Manitous and Marzocchis are just that - cheap.
Consider CRC as well. They have good prices. Can't tell you which model specifically though. General guidelines, imho.
