Well ... this is even more interesting.
I downloaded two test images from dpreview, a normal city scene as well
as one of their color/resolution test shots and put them into a fresh
folder.
This was my terminal response:
david@W530:~/darktable/build/src$ darktable -d
[rawspeed] No decoder found. Sorry.
[rawspeed] No decoder found. Sorry.
As expected. We don't lad these RAW files ...
But after 10 seconds the 2 RAF files were decoded an were ready for
processing.
In darkroom I noticed that there was no processing (after the
'0-original) in the history
... and this says that it's not a RAW that was loaded. So I feel confirmed that
it was GraphicsMagic loading the files.
but the image looked exceptionally good at
that point. I was concerned over noise but then found it was small dust
particles on a black bottle. I compared the colors of the Wolf-Faust
target in the image with my copy of the same target .. they appeared
identical. The raw appears very sharp but I did apply minimal basic
sharpening and nothing more. Second image same ... with impressive detail.
Does anyone know what format GM converts the files to? 8bit JPEG or some decent
high bit depth format?
I am more than surprised. The only down side appears that the mysterious
decoding takes much longer than I would normally expect. The images are
remarkable!
The long processing times are to be expected if GM does a full resolution
convert.
Maybe I should search for some test files myself.
