Sorry if I'm late to this discussion, but I tried creating custom base
curves for DR-400 shots using dt-curve-tool and analyzing a stack of
similar DR-400 pictures, but I'm not happy with the result, seeing
both noise artifacts in the shadows and a loss of color in the higher
end, esp in the skin tones.

Thanks for the pointer to the levels module.  I will try that tonight.

I played with zone system as well but didn't understand it well enough
to get good results from it.


Also, I've never liked the inaccuracy of dragging sliders and curves
around.
