I am running KDE on Debian since many years and never had any problems like 
that. I also never heard of anyone else having issues with it. Maybe S.u.S.E. 
(or whatever they call themselves nowadays) are breaking stuff?

That being said, if you can find something for the gtkrc that helps I would be 
interested to try it.
