fwiw, the fallback version similar to the old widgets still compiles (add
-DDT_BAUHAUS_OLD to CFLAGS):

i think they're visually more obtrusive and the indication of ratio of
areas is misleading in pretty much every context they're used, but i'm also
tired of gui discussions.
