I'm not saying "blame anyone in particular".  We've had to make the
same kind of decision with Gutenprint (as of 5.2.12, we've dropped
support for 10.5 after having earlier dropped support for 10.3 and
10.4).  Just recognize that it does hurt some people.

Darktable is, to be sure, more CPU and graphics intensive than
Gutenprint (which runs entirely in the background), making it less
likely that people will want to run it on really old systems.
