My point is that software-wise the situation is the same for Linux -
it's nearly impossible to have darktable 2.2 on, say, 6 years old Debian
distro. The difference of course being that you can still install newer
Linux distributions on virtually anything still being used, while Apple
has a policy of obsoleting hardware much more faster. But that's
something Mac users should have been aware of when they were buying
Apple's hardware - eventually you get stuck with outdated software even
though hardware is still OKish. Or you can install Linux on it;))
