Binary PPA versions support OpenCL. No need to compile for that.

Did you install AMDGPU-PRO? On 16.04?

Can you verify, that your system is using it, e.g. 'lsmod|grep amdgpu',
what's does /var/log/Xorg log say?

What's in /etc/OpenCL/vendors/?
