The answer to your last question is "You shouldn't need to".
You have a standard lens and I see it in the lensfun database.
if you are obsessed with this, there are tools for profiling your lens and
creating local entry.
But I think, as the saying goes, you are over-egging the custard.
My experience with about 50 years of photography is that hardware problems like
lens correction are about #487 on the list of what's wrong with my photos that
need correction..  I give thanks to people that are smarter than me in these
matters, not just at Sony but also the developers of Darktable.

I would think that manually turning on lens correction when it has been on by
'auto' would be a null operation, but what do the developers have to say on 
this?

I've had no problems with lens correction with any of my Sony or Minolta lenses,
not with the Fujifilm equipment, when using DT.
