Yes I know that, and I really appreciate their work. But you said "Binaries are always a pain", and that's not true. I'm not a package/kernel maintainer, and neither is the OP. We are end users, and for us the thing that matters is that NVidia drivers work out of the box on Ubuntu, and that in many situations even the binaries downloaded directly from NVidia also work without problems. If there are problems in determined situations, please say so (you did in follow ups, thanks for that). But saying that somebody should avoid NVidia cards because "Nvidia blobs are a pain. They have many bugs and may have troubles with newer kernels and X server" without any qualification to that statement is not helping end users to make informed decisions.
