Or you can also reduce non local means search radius. Denoising images is a hard problem. Denoising an image really fastly is even harder. The implementations we have in darktable are in fact already quite optimised for performance (non local means implemented in a naive way would be probably about 50 times slower or more for a patch radius of 3). My focus until now was to improve darktable's denoising quality, and user experience. Now that darktable can handle high ISOs quite well, I will try to create faster denoisers without lowering the results' quality.
