My mac uses 160 watts with the screen off, 270 with the screens on If use use an average of 200 w, then we are using about 5 kWh/day. My differential electrical rate is 8 c/kWh, so it costs me 40 cents a day to leave my computer on, or about $150/year 40 cents is worth it me JUST to not have to re-establish state. E.g. right now I have: * 3 Chorme windows up with about 50 tabs * 1 firefox window with 5 tabs. * two textwranger windows up (It remembers full state, though...) * Aperture * Affinity * Ms Word * Preview * Itunes * Messenger I do have a UPS for it to get us through the short power bumps.
