Darktable 3.2.1

My take only using the eyedropper tool from the negadoctor module in the dark green area of the larger tree and a slight correction on the dynamic range slider (0.61 db). Colors are a bit oversaturated. You can tweek this in the correction tab of that module.

Hello,

I am quite new to raw processing with darktable. My primary purpose is to "scan" negative films with dslr, invert them, and then do some post processing. This is just a hobby, so I don't expect stunning results at start, I just need something to begin with.

I can achieve pretty good results with new films shot by myself with just a few clicks.

But I am completely lost when I am trying to revie my father's 40+ year old negatives. I do the same basic steps what I do with my new films (i.e. white balance the film base on the right side, do an invert with picker choosing the now white stripe on the right, and then I there I am with a dull image seemingly lacking color and contrast, etc.

I would be very grateful, if you could help me out getting started, i.e provide me with a basic, repeatable set of steps which would bring me to a somewhat better image.

Here are the links to an example nef file and an exported jpg to the starting point where I currently stand quite helpless. nef <https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WH9iBeIz6oXKw-0wqOnQc96daKKTu8up/view?usp=sharing> xmp <https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pTtkR9Ho8SSAfJAjiczkkLnctFEK_uyt/view?usp=sharing> jpg <https://drive.google.com/file/d/12XCiHSTcUgeHepAefh4TPc4DPe3Z83GL/view?usp=sharing>

Another dull example:

Another (somewhat better) example, where I used the woman's swimming dress to pick black and white points with the rgb curve tool: nef <https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Gw0QfQRUEftJur-qM53K0aoyBF36dhTq/view?usp=sharing> xmp <https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VR-TV730ZomKMoBZc-vGzImvFaktaPFH/view?usp=sharing> jpg <https://drive.google.com/file/d/19Vu_DdYLaEioiVvW2KxmyzlIajz2zHEs/view?usp=sharing>

Thanks for your help:
Miklos
