Hi Tom, I reasonable question to ask, but Darktable's strength is its
editing capabilities. Adobe's Lightroom strength is the ability to copy
files from SD cards and import them into a folder structure. Don't expect
Darktable to have the digital management systems of Lightroom. This is not
a priority for developers who have really focused on excellent processing
of images. On Windows you could use the copy and paste function to place
the images from the card into your own folder structure. On my computer I
have Lightroom so I use that to copy the images from my SD cards, phones
and other sources. I also use Lightroom to then organise another two backup
drives of my processed and unprocessed images for safety. But Darktable is
so much better for my editing needs that I do my editing in Darktable not
Lightroom. Maybe one day a new developer may come along who is motivated to
develop digital management system to rival Lightroom, but I am just
grateful for the excellent job the past and current developers have done by
focusing on editing options in Darktable. But I also echo Willy Williams
comments above.
