I have checked the diff of the pull request. New version makes it much
easier to understand. Thank you.
I was confused where to rename and kept thinking that it's the number
that can be renamed. After all that was the only name visible for the
duplicate. Bottom area where text can be entered, did not look like
editable area on my machine at all and never tried it. I kept trying to
change the number part.
I don't know if these widgets allow placeholder like HTML widgets do. If
they do, perhaps a placeholder like "Enter name here" will help a lot.
Thank you all for the help and pointers.

thanks Terry, this wasn't obvious from the documentation, so I have
created a PR to propose an update:

I have just read the manual and it does mention the buttons at the
top right. The buttons are actually at the bottom. To rename a
duplicate just place the cursor in the box next to the duplicate
and give it a name. The process is very easy and straightforward.
The developers have done a great job with this module. If any
developers are reading this. It would be great to have the same
renaming capacity for snapshots.

So, is this a documentation bug? I knew about those buttons
and panel on left hand side. For me, most of the times
duplicates module is collapsed. If you have lot of entries in
history panel, I have to scroll down to expand the duplicates
module and the buttons are at the bottom, so I was looking for
a shortcut. My interpretation was, there will be something on
top right either of the module or darkroom view, but these
buttons are at bottom.
Manual also mentions the duplicates can be renamed. I have not
figured out how to do it and I just get the entries 0 and 1
etc. Can it be done from darkroom duplicates view? If so, how?

In my darkroom layout the left hand panel is populated with
snapshots, history, duplicate manager, color picker, tagging,
image information, mask manager and export.
With duplicate manager open it displays a thumbnail of the
current image and under it 2 buttons "duplicate" and
"original". If I click duplicate it creates a new thumbnail
with the same edits as the first. If I click original it
creates a new image with only my "base" modules applied.

Greetings,
On 3.6, Ubuntu 20.04
I must be going blind or something. I could not find the
buttons as
described at
https://www.darktable.org/usermanual/3.6/en/module-reference/utility-modules/darkroom/duplicate-manager/
<https://www.darktable.org/usermanual/3.6/en/module-reference/utility-modules/darkroom/duplicate-manager/>
It says buttons on top-right and I don't see any buttons.
Trying to
figure out top right of what? Where it says
lighttable/darkroom etc or
top right of duplicate manager where reset instance etc
buttons are
typically shown.
In either case, I don't get any buttons anywhere. All I
want to do start
a new image without any changes or a virgin version as
manual describes it.

Niranjan
