Hi Andrew,
     it looks like you have used the new copy and import feature. If that
is the case then I would expect your original files and associated .xmp
files with previous edits to be located in their original folders. The copy
and import would have copied the images but not removed them from the
original folder. For your sake, I hope I am correct.

Good luck and I hope it all works out for you finding the originals. I am
mainly a windows user if that is relevant.
