Hi Andrew,
it looks like you have used the new copy and import feature. If
that is the case then I would expect your original files and
associated .xmp files with previous edits to be located in their
original folders. The copy and import would have copied the images but
not removed them from the original folder. For your sake, I hope I am
correct.
Good luck and I hope it all works out for you finding the originals. I
am mainly a windows user if that is relevant.

Hi,
Upon upgrading to 3.6 I have now discovered that DT has renamed
all of
the images in the folder I opened today with 20211029- 1104.CR2.
I have never set that up, I only ever run on the camera images
numbers,
how else do I get to keep track of the frames so that I can
prepare the
next prefix in my numbering scheme. The only numbers that matter are
from the camera, I can only guess that these renamed images are
copied
somewhere that DT knows, but why would I want to have two versions
of my
RAW files.
I am shell shocked and bewildered, why is DT fcking with my Data
storage?
I am really distressed, this has been a bad day for me.

Hi Terry, Bernhard and Niranjan,
I did select Copy and Import, because the alternative did not sound like
much and I had always used the import process in the past. Perhaps a
check box on that left side for "Do not copy"would help. I will test the
"Add to Library" option later today.
I have sufficient back up measures so I can rebuild my data, and it
looks like I may also be able to recover my .xmp files.
Despite the frustrations I have experienced, I love this program, I
appreciate the enormous amount of work undertaken by the developers. I
evangelise for Darktable in camera clubs and among my photographic
friends. I suspect my tolerance levels have been impacted by the Covid
Lockdowns in Melbourne and Victoria. I apologise if I have come on too
strong.
Kind regards
Andrew Greig
