+1 for that. Not entirely sure, but I guess DT writes a thumbnail to the XMP. 
DigiKam doesn't pick that up but instead uses the thumbnail in the RAW. But 
that's where more trouble starts -- DigiKam could use the XMP thumbnail (if DT 
wrote it adhering to some standard and DigiKam understanding that standard) but 
what would happen if you viewed the large size image in DigiKam? The thumbnail 
is too grainy for that, a large JPEG is not in XMP. So would DigiKam have to 
understand the processing stack of DT and develop it? DigiKam has a versioning 
feature but doesn't currently support versioning for external raw developing 
SW. If that is fixed - and the developers are aware - then all would be good.

Very long story short -- this may be an issue for the DigiKam list :)
