I use DT 1.2.3 under openSUSE 12.3 and KDE 4.10.5.

I develop my photos from the raw cr2 files out of a Canon EOS 50D.

There are mainly two features I miss in DT (so far):
- hierarchical tags
- borders with captions.

So I tag the exported jpg files (100%) in digikam. Then I import them in
gimp (2.8.4) to apply a script (selfmade to my needs) to append a border
with a caption to the picture together with some minor corrections that
are not yet possible in DT. I keep the xcf files and export from them in
batch mode (selfmade gimp script) to jpg files. So I am able to create
unscaled and downscaled versions (according to further usage) in batch
mode. My script takes care to scale down only the picture and to append
border and caption as new to the smaller image (so the edges remain clean).

Unfortunately gimp doesn't export the xmp data provided by digikam. So I
copy the metadata (exiftool in batch mode) from the jpg files that come
from DT to the jpg files that come from gimp.

But exiftool keeps to throw warnings like "Invalid CustomFunctions2 data".

I compared the metadata read by exiftool from the original camera jpg
files (as created besides cr2) with the jpg files exported by DT.

There are four warnings right at the start:
- Invalid CustomFunctions2 data
- Invalid AFMicroAdj data
- Invalid VignettingCorr data
- Invalid VignettingCorr2 data

The tags coming from digikam are present in both files.

In the "IFD0" group the tags "X Resolution", "Y Resolution", and
"Resolution Unit" are missing.

The "IFD1" group is missing completely.

In the "Canon" group
- the "Quality" tag has changed from "Fine" to "RAW"
- the "Lens Type" tag has changed from "Canon EF-S 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS
USM" to "Unknown (59904)"
- the "User Def 1 Picture Style" (also 2 and 3) has changed from
"Standard" to "Unknown (33024)"
- the tags "AF Micro Adj Mode", "AF Micro Adj Value", "Peripheral
Lighting", "Peripheral Lighting Value", "Original Image Width",
"Original Image Height", and "Peripheral Lighting Setting" are missing.

The "CanonCustom" group is missing completely.

Is "CustomFunctions2" a group provided by DT?

Interesting: The "Exif Byte Order" tag in the "File" group has changed
from "Little-endian (Intel, II)" to "Big-endian (Motorola, MM)".

Is this information helpful? I can upload the OO-Calc file showing the
entire comparison, if desired. It includes the metadata of following
files (as read by exiftool):
- original cr2
- original jpg
- jpg as exported from DT and tagged by digikam
- jpg as exported from gimp and with metadata exported by exiftool.

I don't really need the metadata that cannot be read by exiftool. But
somebody might.
