Ah, thank you for clearing that up. I was under the impression that the gimp 
was silently accepting some embedded sRGB versions as equivalent to it's "sRGB 
built-in", but not darktable's. After feeding it a quick random corpus of 
camera jpegs culled from the web, I see that it actually asks about converting 
other ones... maybe the cases I thought it were "compatible" simply lacked 
embedded profiles altogether. This is obviously a vast subject, and as much as 
I'd like to be less ignorant about it, I'm a little afraid to go down that 
rabit hole... :)
