I believe you installed openSUSE 13.1 recently and *if* that is where you
have the error, it would be a failure to correctly set your desktop
default mail parameters.  I am able and have been for several version
releases of darktable to email directly photos via export.

If you are useing KDE:
  Configure Desktop --> Default Applications --> Email Client

If other than KDE, there should be similar steps in your chosed DE.
