Hi @all, was working with Nikon ViewNX before switching to darktable (currently 1.4.1 from ppa). When in import mode (Nikon Transfer) there was an option to specify an additional backup location, in my case an external drive. (that is: reading once => writing twice (in two different data storage media<http://dict.leo.org/ende/index_en.html#/search=medium&searchLoc=0&resultOrder=basic&multiwordShowSingle=on>)). As far as I know lightroom and aperture do the same. (no, I'm not as extreme as this guy http://blog.chasejarvis.com/blog/2010/06/workflow-and-backup-for-photo-video/ - but immediate backup would be helpful).
