Hi Ulrich,

Thanks for your reply.

I would like to challenge your assumption that this is database related.

Okay, I started DT with '-d perf' and the terminal had no output for
several minutes while DT was at 100% CPU on one core out of four. When DT
finally started, the output had a few dozen [dev_pixelpipe] lines ending
with

[dev_process_thumbnail] pixel pipeline processing took 0.083 secs (0.086
CPU)

I then selected one image, switched to DR without a delay, but when
switching back to Lighttable it again took several minutes with DT
darkening and CPU at 100%. Again no output in the terminal until the switch
back to LT happened and then only a few dozen lines.

I then renamed the db file .old and started DT afresh with '-d perf'. It
runs immediately and I import a folder, switch to DR and back all without a
delay. Now the output in the terminal is almost the same as with the big
database.

I'd like to note that even with the big database, the slowdown seems to
happen only when starting DT or switching from Darkroom to Lighttable.
While in LT I can display parent folders with hundreds of images and all
the thumbnails show up in a flash.
