Speaking for myself, i have many style for diferent b&w looks, several
styles for film emulation, and a few other assorted looks. Maybe this is a
bad comparison but i think of styles kind of like Instagram filters we
apply to get a general look and then tweak the result.
If one should not have lots of styles, then why does this wiki page (
http://darktable.org/redmine/projects/darktable/wiki/DarktableStyles) exist
with so much content or, to an extreme, why even bother having styles at
all?
And if you look closely at what you suggest, you are effectively
maintaining a style library. Just doing it in another way, with the added
con of having to maintain a set of "template" images.
