I am not really sure what others see as a problem. I am importing directly 
(USB) from the camera and simply specify in the Preferences/Session Options 
where I want the images to be placed on my hd and how they should be numbered. 
It simply works! It also works if I import from the SD card with a USB 
adapter. Since dt displays image thumbnails alongside the file name, it makes 
it easy to be selective if needed.

I have never lost any material through this process. Nice feature!
