I am not really sure what others see as a problem. I am importing directly (USB) from the camera and simply specify in the Preferences/Session Options where I want the images to be placed on my hd and how they should be numbered. It simply works! It also works if I import from the SD card with a USB adapter. Since dt displays image thumbnails alongside the file name, it makes it easy to be selective if needed.
I have never lost any material through this process. Nice feature!
