Thank you all for your replies. I'll try and install 1.6.3 from git.

But first of all I reinstalled the openSUSE package and started DT from
the terminal. I get the following output:

[imageop_init_presets] WARNING: Could not find versioning information
for 'sharpen' preset 'Neue Voreinstellung'
Until some is found, the preset will be unavailable.
(To make it return, please load an image that uses the preset.)

I cannot find any 'Neue Voreinstellung'.

Seeing it I remember a slightly annoying message in 1.4 whenever I
started to edit a newly imported photo and the automatic Standard style
was applied:
"Module 'sharpen' version mismatch: 1 != 0"

In vain I asked the mailing list for help ("Error message: Module
sharpen version mismatch 1 != 0") on  2014-01-11 15:45:25.

In the end I left it to this state, as sharpen worked when applied manually.

My Standard.dtstyle:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<darktable_style version="1.0">

Can you make anything out of this?

Hopefully
