Sure. A question might be: if dt can write the sidecar on ingestion it 
could do so symmetrically on export (as an option). And I think a work 
around if you want to / need to have a sidecar for jpg right now would 
just to ingest them. I understood the OP was searching something along 
those lines.

I understood that <an unknown big commercial product> uses xml based 
definition files (xmp) for the description of the metadata fields and 
values available. Sounds complex to do but quite flexible. And probably 
even an interesting programming project.

Sure. The "... unfortunately ..." just wanted to stress that 
unfortunately there is not yet much to write about. If it would be just 
a lack of documentation I think I'd have started writing up something.
