Hi Christian,

LT has an in memory cache of thumbnails for speed. When you scroll through
collections larger than your cache you will be continually dropping and
regenerating thumbnails - I personally prefer to just use small collections as
a simplistic solution.

Even if you don't choose jpeg or jpeg+DNG but just choose DNG that Pentax DNG
file will contain an embedded jpg for which you can set the quality . If you
choose large size options for that embedded jpeg it will presumably be slower
to generate thumbs as dt will have to read and process more of the file for
each one. If you choose to have no embedded jpeg at all (I'm not sure if this
is actually possible) it would be *much* slower as dt will have to read the
whole raw (rather than just the embedded jpeg component) to generate its
thumbnail.

So if you want rapid thumbs - set small embedded jpegs in your DNG. And use
small collections. And if that isn't enough for you also browse the dt info for
setting cache sizes and stuff.

Rob.

So I am no alone? To me it seems like that thumbs get regenerated more often
than needed? Sometimes thumbs are there and sometimes it takes a second.
BTW I do not use the embedded jpg and use DNG from my Pentax K-5.

No. Would be interesting what is causing this delay, but I do not know how to
analyze what is going on.
